April is here! The unofficial official end of winter!
I really can't tell you how much we love the month of April around here. It's a very busy month on the farm. Plants are emerging (I'm ignoring the weeds for now), the ground is drying out, and all farmers are getting ready for planting season. We're not far from being able to plant, so our guys are champing at the bit to get in the field.
A lot of preparation goes into planting. Missing or skipping something can impact our yields in the fall, so the guys take great care in making sure they check every nook and cranny of the planters. (I'm so glad this is not in my job description!)
There's a lot of other fun on the farm this time of year. Our chicks are growing very quickly! They were born in February and will be laying eggs in about 10 weeks, isn't that amazing? The cat is still trying to chase them. The dog is still trying to chase them. Eric, the kids, and I, ARE chasing them.... and returning them when they get out of their area. A little extra cardio boost for the day!
A few snapshot moments from the farm this past week:
Our 32-row planter getting some TLC in the shop.
Atticus, our furry farm terrorist gets some love from Royal.
And the blooms. Yes, I walk around the farm every day and monitor their growth!
This (and the picture at the top) is Tete-a-Tete, a favorite daffodil of mine.
The strawberries have been up for a few weeks already. The have a lot of growing to do; they will be producing strawberries in two short months.
This is Johnson's Blue Geranium just emerging. Isn't it intricate? There isn't a single moment from April-November that I don't love this plant!
What are some of your favorite things about spring? Any favorite plants emerging?
